I'm sure, much to Barack Obama's chagrin, the Clinton's are back in the news this week with the Democratic Convention looming in a few weeks. Former President Bill Clinton gave a revealing interview to ABC News' Kate Snow in which he could barely bring himself to admit that Obama is even qualified to be the President of the United States. Hillary has even been telling her supporters that it's acceptable to place her name into nomination at the convention if they so choose. Neither of these developments is good news for Barack Obama.
As everyone gets caught up in the Obama euphoria, the reality of the situation is that he's really been struggling to regain the momentum that he had during the Democratic primaries. The race is essentially a dead heat, and the Clinton's know that he needs their support to have a chance to beat John McCain in the fall. There's no doubt in my mind now that the Clinton's will support Obama, but it will be very lukewarm support.
Bill Clinton clearly is distressed that he was labeled a racist, and he obviously hasn't forgotten that transgression, telling Snow that he will not even comment on the subject until January. Hillary will provide support for the good of the party, but there will be no tears shed by the Clintons if Obama loses in the fall. An Obama loss will play perfectly into Hillary's plan to run in 2012 to secure what she probably thinks she richly deserves, to be the First Woman President of the United States.
