My Brother's Keeper

President Barack Obama introduced the most important initiative of his presidency today when he hosted an array of esteemed businessmen, political power brokers and other individuals of influence at the White House for the announcement of "My Brother's Keeper" which will focus on foundations and business leaders donating up to $200 million over a 5 year period to target minority youth of color.

Let's be honest, while esteemed writes like Jason Whitlock and Michael Wilbon debate over the relevance of the N-Word and how the NFL polices it's use, minority youth of color is the black communities achilles heel and future.  While The Affordable Health Care Act is The President's signature legislation, being the first black president and initiating programs to positively impact the young black male would impact his legacy in a more meaningful way.

A gathering that attracts Colin Powell, Bill O'Reilly, Rev. Al Sharpton and Magic Johnson is meaningful for more than a nice photo op and networking.

Can National Action Network Survive?

The New York Post reports that finances at Rev. Al Sharpton's nonprofit organization National Action Network are so dire that the organization may not be able to survive according to an internal bookkeeping audit. The organization still faces over a million dollars in delinquent tax payments that are owed at the city, state and federal levels. Sharpton hasn't commented on this report, but it will be interesting to see what his version of the truth will be concerning the financial viability of his organization.

Rev. Al Owes Feds $500,000 For Taking Illegal Campaign Contributions

The New York Post is reporting that Rev. Al Sharpton owes almost $500,000 in fines for financing his 2004 presidential campaign with illegal contributions. The Federal Election Commission has ruled that Sharpton mixed his personal and campaign expenses.

Sharpton has vowed to appeal, but I would assume that the fines continue to accrue the longer that he takes to pay them. He can't be feeling real good this morning.

Is It Time For Al To Get Another Job

The Rev. Al Sharpton has made a career of fighting for the injustices of all people, but mainly black people. He's actually parlayed it into a nearly million dollar a year annual salary position. With the President-elect being a black man, Gary Bauer writes in HumanEvents.com that it's time for Sharpton to dust off his resume because of the election of Barack Obama, and the fact that 80% of the people who voted stated that "race" was not a factor in the election.

Bauer of course is writing from a conservative perspective in this article. His sentiment on the surface is very closed minded, when I hear reports of students going to school the day after the election with Obama shirts on and being heckled by white students. I think that black people are allowed to have this moment of celebration, and in the end look at the qualities that Obama exhibited to become president: brilliance; savvy; hard work; good decision making, incorporate them into our everyday lives and shoot for the stars, not worrying about what the rest of the world believes or thinks.

Sharpton Off the Hook In Fed Probe

Federal prosecutors have dropped their charges against the Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network for tax fraud. Sharpton, who in recent weeks, is becoming more mainstream, has to be breathing a sigh of relief. The bottom line is, Sharpton's innocent of any wrong doing in the probe.

I'm not really interested in what Rev. Sharptons's income is, or derived from, but columnist, Errol Louis of the New York Daily News goes into some detail regarding Sharpton's finances. Needless to say, Sharpton is doing fine in his jobs as a radio host and commentator.

Sharpton has become the "go to" black political commentator and appears to be more conservative and less threatening in his delivery. It's nice to see someone make subtle changes for the benefit of a platform. Sharpton is showing his versatility, and it's a pleasant change.
